As a Finnish tradition that began in 1949, strings of lights float above Aleksanterinkatu, Helsinki’s official Christmas street, as a gesture of hope after the darkness of the war years. Candles flicker in the windows of the surrounding shops and cafes making the city glow.
It is a truly magical illuminated experience and one of the most beautiful Christmas Markets. After visiting one of Europe’s Best Christmas Markets, take about a 30 minute drive to Lapland and visit Santa’s Workshop. You can also go ice fishing or dog sledding, and stay in one of the stunning glass igloos.
