Vegetarian food in Puerto Vallarta? Yes!
Puerto Vallarta is a modern Mexican city that is obviously influenced by the United States. I thought I was going to practice my Spanish, but just about everywhere I went the locals wanted to speak English with me, so that they could practice.
When looking for vegetarian food, you'll need to ask about ingredients. Just like in the US, not everyone will understand that fish is not vegetarian nor are beans made with lard. Hence, if you ask, you will find many delicious vegetarian foods and drinks.
Panela cheese is also known as ‘basket cheese’ since it is literally made in baskets. This cheese was made by a woman in her home to sell to neighbors and visitors. I even met the very nice cow who provided the milk that was used to make the cheese.
